Luck is for Losers...
This was the subject line of an email I received the other day. It was tied to a St. Patrick's Day promotion and since today is the "National Day of Luck" (I just made that up) it seemed fitting to steal their line.
I don't know about you but the only place I think luck really enters the picture is on the golf course. A drive lands in the fairway and bounces into the rough, that's bad luck but if it goes the other way, lands in the rough and bounces into the fairway, well, that is good luck.
But it's hard for me to believe much in business luck though I'm sure there are examples around. Emerson said "Shallow men believe in luck. Strong men believe in cause and effect."
And my favorite luck saying of all time is credited to Samuel Goldwyn, "The harder I work, the luckier I get," though it seems one could argue that he was paraphrasing Thomas Jefferson's "I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have."
