What a way to run a business. I'd not have a business if I treated customers like this.
Back-story: Yesterday I had a Delta flight I needed to cancel, not change, but cancel.
I'm thinking I should be able to easily get the $300 put toward a future flight. Seems simple enough but I could not see how to do this online.
So, me thinks, "Why don't I do it the old-fashioned way and just call Delta?"
After reciting my frequent flyer number, giving the details of my flight and what I want to do to the automated voice on the other end, the voice says to me "Your call is important to us but due to heavy call volume, we are unable to take your call at this time. Please call back at another time or go to Delta.com."
Dial tone.
Don't get me wrong. I love the Internet. If I can buy it online, I do. But if I have questions and timing is critical, I still want to be able to talk or chat with a human. And I want to do it now... while I'm trying to buy or research or do whatever it is that brought me to a given site.
"Call back another time" is about as bad as it gets. And who was the idiot that decided it was okay to treat callers like you-know-what as long as you preface the bad treatment with "Your call is important to us... " What baloney.
You may or may not have noticed a recent change in our tagline but it is now "Promote Smart. It is simply doing business the way we would want to be treated.
