Boise Rescue Mission Ministries
Boise Rescue Mission Ministries
Boise, ID

Founded in 1958, the Boise Rescue Mission Ministries of Boise Idaho is committed to meeting the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of homeless and addicted individuals. Restoring faith, hope and family is vital. Their sole purpose is to see the lives of men, women and children in their community truly transformed. Boise Rescue is the primary provider of homeless services in the state of Idaho with five facilities that serve men, women and children with shelter, food, addiction recovery and much more.

Last year, they provided over 375,000 meals, 126,000 beds for overnight stays, over 60,000 pieces of clothes, and more than 2700 new guests used their services. They receive no government support, but rely on the kind donations of businesses, churches and families.

Veterans have a special ministry program available through the Boise Rescue group. Catering to the needs of all veterans, young or old, they offer food and shelter, as well as care and counseling on a case-by-case basis. They believe that caring for the community's veterans is a long-term commitment, which includes regular follow up with all the veterans who have gone through the ministry program, visiting them in their homes and continuing the relationship of support and accountability they have received through this special organization.

Stand Up Girl Foundation
Stand Up Girl Foundation
Oregon

Stand Up Girl Foundation was started in 1999 by an engineer from Oregon who felt we needed a new method of outreach to capture the attention of the new online generations. It was decided they needed to reach them using the media they were already using. This non-profit is dedicated to providing pregnant adolescent and young adult women with resources and support. Their ultimate goal is to get them in touch with a local Pregnancy Resource Center that can provide them with the personal interaction they need and a local support team.

Their website contains real-life stories of girls facing their own crisis pregnancies. Information is provided on how the StandUpGirl.com team can offer personal and individual guidance to help them make a life-affirming choice. Volunteers moderate the site's chat rooms and forums and respond to emails from all across the world. They find educational material, real answers to their questions, and a community of women they can talk to about their unplanned pregnancy. Visitors from all perspectives of the pro-life issue use this site.

Since 2000, they have had over 26 million visitors to their site as well as almost 300,000 each month to their Facebook page. There is an iPhone® and Android app, a variety of social media pages, and an emergency text support line dedicated to help those struggling with their decisions.

Joshua's Wish, Inc.
Joshua's Wish, Inc.
Macon, GA

Joshua's Wish, Inc. is a nonprofit group created in 2009 and based in Macon Georgia. Their mission is to fund national medical research efforts in finding a cure for pediatric brain tumors. This organization was founded in honor of Joshua Solomon, who passed away in 2009 from Diffuse Intrinsic Pointine Glioma or DIPG, an inoperable and incurable form of brain cancer.

Every year approximately 300 children are diagnosed with these deadly tumors. Less than 1% of them will survive 18 months. The average life span for a child after diagnosis is 6-9 months. Joshua's parents want to help support these families of children in Georgia who are suffering from brain cancer and are undergoing treatment.

Brain tumors are the leading cause of deaths from childhood cancer. Treatments have not improved in more than 20 years due to a severe lack of research funding. Less than 2% of federal funding is directed towards research in solving children's cancer.

Project Angel Hugs
Project Angel Hugs
Plymouth, WI

Project Angel Hugs (PAH), based out of Plymouth, WI, adds a spark of laughter and fun to the life of children and their families touched by cancer. In 1999 a five year old, Vanessa Jensema, was diagnosed with leukemia. She noticed that other children in the cancer unit weren't getting as many cards as she was. So PAH was born!

Two separate programs exist. An Angel HUG is a box of goodies sent out 4-6 times a year, usually around the holidays or a birthday, directly to the child's home address. The Holiday HUGs include something for each sibling in the family under the age of 15. Children located outside the US are enrolled in the second program, the Angel KISS program. Twelve times a year they receive a small handmade craft created by healthy youth across the country to put a smile on their face and make a difference.

PAH receives email requests and updates on the children enrolled in the program. Prayer alerts are sent out to those who have volunteered to add these children to their prayers.

Local youth are encouraged to come to the PAH office. They are contacted through 4H groups, church youth programs or school programs. Most come to what is called the ANGEL KISS Gathering to learn the history of the program and discover how one little girl's spirit touched so many lives. The hope is that these same youth will return on their own to help out after school, at night or on weekends, and they will put their energy to good use. Children who volunteer here learn at a young age how one person can make such a difference in the lives of others.
