Band of Parents helps raise funds for pediatric cancer research and provides a support network for families with children undergoing treatment for Neuroblastoma. The group's mission is to seek projects that have already been examined in the lab and are in need of assistance to rapidly move into a patient population within 12-24 months of funding.
Neuroblastoma is the most common form of cancer diagnosed in infants. In 2 out of 3 cases it goes undiagnosed until it has metastasized and requires many rounds of harsh treatments including surgery, chemo therapy and radiation.
Band of Parents is based out of Dewittville, NY. Since the non-profit was formed in 2007, over $3 million has been contributed to research! 100 families of children in treatment initially came together to form the group. They are bound together by the hope that a cure exists and that a cure will be found for all children facing this devastating disease.

The Schools for Healthy Lifestyles (SHL) program was founded in 1997 to promote and maintain a comprehensive health program in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma through preventative community based school health education programs for students, families and faculty.
SHL currently promotes its mission in 68 elementary schools impacting 26 school districts located in 18 counties. It is estimated that the SHL program will impact approximately 40,000 students, families and faculty/staff during the 2015-16 school year. In addition, more than half of students in SHL participating schools qualify for the free and reduced lunch program.
SHL schools focus on five areas (Physical Activity, Nutrition, Injury Prevention, Tobacco Use Prevention and Oral Health Education). They recently implemented an Adopt-a-Dentist and an Adopt-a-Doctor program. Volunteer dentists will visit each participating SHL school and make oral health presentations and assist in making arrangements for emergency dental care for low income students without the financial resources for treatment.
Through participation in the project-based STEM program, students learn to analyze and solve problems utilizing the Engineering Design Process, which helps them develop technological literacy skills. It is these skills that industry seeks in its workforce. Each fall, over 850 middle and high schools and over 18,000 students participate in the competition.
