Adopt-A-Block
Adopt-A-Block
Baltimore, MD

Adopt-A-Block is a coalition or partnership comprised of local churches, city government, the police department, community services and businesses working together to bring restoration to their inner cities, block by block. The purpose is to "adopt" an entire city block with all its residents, providing assistance and a diversity of opportunities to improve living conditions. They have given away 14 homes to veterans and their families in Baltimore who have never owned a home through their Compassion Commission Project. Compassion Commission is a youth-led building initiative to help rebuild and restore their communities. Compassion Commission has a profound impact on both the teens who serve and the residents of the community who benefit from their acts of kindness.

Adopt-A-Block also has a food distribution program called "A Can Can Make A Difference". On January 23, 1992 war was declared on hunger in Maryland. A Can Can Make A Difference (CCMAD) is the largest food distribution agency in Maryland that gives all of its food away for free! To date they have distributed over 40 million pounds of food to families in need. CCMAD serves many agencies, including shelters, soup kitchens, churches, and local food pantries.

National Voices for Equality, Education and Enlightenment
Miami, FL

The mission of National Voices for Equality, Education and Enlightenment (NVEEE) is to prevent bullying, violence, and suicide among youth, families, and communities, through direct service, mentoring, and prevention education.

NVEEE is a community-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in October 2009. They are a diverse team of professional educators, business leaders, parents and students, who took concerns about student safety and well-being and helped put their passion into action, moving from bystanders to community leaders. In seven years, NVEEE has presented to nearly 30,000 participants in schools, medical centers, universities, social service agencies, and religious communities.

One of their signature programs is the Peace Ambassador Leadership Summit (PALS). PALS is a week long leadership and development program. One hundred high school students are invited to live on Florida International University campus in dorms and earn 50 service hours towards graduation. On Career Day teens receive training on how to find college scholarships and have one-on-one time with people that work in their desired fields. The Life Skills workshop details how to save, build credit, find transportation and housing, and create a monthly budget. Workshops on building self-esteem and dealing with all forms of bullying and even suicide ideation is always a priority for them.

United Brachial Plexus Network
Reading, MA

The United Brachial Plexus Network (UBPN) is a registered non-profit 501(c)3 organization devoted to providing information, support and leadership for families and those concerned with brachial plexus injuries worldwide. UBPN increases awareness of and works towards the prevention of brachial plexus injuries while educating medical and legal professionals, politicians and the public on issues surrounding this disability.

Children who are excluded feel a part of something... and they feel comfortable. No one is staring at them eat or how they walk, they just have this incredible place to find others just like them.
